Meet Your Expert

I'm Alex Traherne

I created Gradient Snowsport to bring the same high quality ski instructing and training I’ve been giving for years in the Austrian Alps, back to the UK for the off season period of May to November.

I’m passionate about skiing and teaching. Growing up regularly skiing the dryslope in Hemel Hempstead, as well as family trips to the Alps, I fell in love with the sport from an early age. Since 2014, I’ve been working the long 6 month ski seasons of Austria as a ski instructor. Since 2019, also working as a ski instructor trainer, preparing trainees for their Austrian ski instructor exams.

I Start and finish the season on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier (Kaprun) and mainly spend the winters in and around Kitzbühel. Based in Jochberg, I have access to both these areas and the Skicircus (Fieberbrunn, Saalbach, Leogang..) as well as Zell am See.

I qualified in the Austrian system to Landeskilehrer (Alpine L3), IASI (Irish) Alpine L3 / ISIA stamp and Snowboard Anwaerter (Austrian L2 Snowboard). I achieved these qualifications some years ago now and have been diligently working towards the highest international certification, Alpine level 4 in both the British and Austrian systems.
